As reviewed
in House & HOME Issue 65 Acceptable
Standards of Domestic Construction is produced by the Acceptable Standards
of Construction Committee NSW, and is a guide to those intending to build a home.
The members of this Committee are dedicated to the development and maintenance
of quality standards in domestic construction. As
a reference handbook, the standards of domestic construction in NSW are placed
at your fingertips. For example, if you need to know what specifications are required
for roof construction, this book will detail the different types of roofs, their
ventilation requirements and claddings. Tables listing specific requirements are
also included and in the case of tiled roofs, state that those with a mass of
more than 60kg/m2 should be clad with natural slates, terracotta or concrete tiles
plus battens. You
will also find detailed information on topics such as what major structural materials
to use, how to prepare your site, constructing footings and retaining walls, guidelines
on ground to floor construction and much more. As
well as helping you with materials and construction, this guide will also assist
you in understanding the requirements of the relevant authorities such as lenders
and local councils in NSW. This
book is a must for people who are renovating, owner builders and those considering
building a new home. Illustrations:
