Extract from introduction of book:

Water gardening can be as involved and work-intensive as you like. Often a moment of serendipity is all that happens to lighten the workload. The pond owner with little time or with physical limitations understandably welcomes these moments of insight into labor-saving practices.

Sometimes arriving at low-maintenance solutions becomes necessary. Working longer hours, children s summer ball games, or a backache mandates easier methods. My my quest for low-maintenance water gardening vas a matter of self-defense. Lower-back pain made it impossible to bend, lift, or toil for any length of time. There has to be an easier way, I said continually. The water gardens, the aquatic plants, the fish all were too precious for me to give up. I knew I had to find easier ways to tend them.

What you'll find in this book is the result of that quest. Water gardeners, being warm and kind folks, have shared their moments of discovery with me. You'll find ways to cut short the time required to maintain your water garden. You'll find ways to ease the physical burden of water gardening. Many of the ideas you'll find to be preventive and some you'll find to be labor-lightening. The final result is the same - more time and less pain. So listen to the water, enjoy the lilies, and follow the fish. Water gardening can be more than good for the soul and spirit; it can also be easy on your body and your time limitations. Enjoy!
