Extract from back cover of book:

Cyril Hobbins left school to become a carpenter joiner, and studied Art at evening classes, going on to design and paint scenery for local theatres, and to produce paintings, besides working as a joiner. Between 1973 and 1988 he became a teacher, and then a social worker/manager for adults with special needs, with the emphasis on practical and life-skills.

From 1988 to the present day he has been a tireless researcher and re-creator of traditional wooden toys, becoming well known to many schools and museums countrywide.

Cyril Hobbins has produced a thoroughly researched book that manages to capture all of the idiosyncrasies and delights of his subject. Whether the readers will want to make use of his shared knowledge to create toys for themselves or simply wish to learn more about the history of traditional toys, this book will undoubtedly serve as a wonderful resource.
Robert S L Xathan, British Toymakers Guild
