As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 132 Only modest woodworking skills are required to make most of the 18 wooden puzzles in this book, yet they will provide many, many hours of entertainment for young and old. Some of the puzzles are sure to be familiar. These include the Dagger Puzzle, in which the goal is to free a metal ring without cutting the cord which passes through it and the Tower of Hanoi, in which the aim is to move all the discs or chips from one end post to the other. Others are less well known, but all are made principally or solely from wood which can be cut and formed to the necessary simple shapes with commonly used tools and equipment. Of course, if you have a fully equipped workshop, so much the better, since you will be able to make the puzzles more quickly. While most of the book is taken up by careful and well illustrated descriptions of the puzzles, there is an introductory chapter that deals with such topics as the adjustment of a tablesaw to achieve the required accuracy, making a couple of useful tablesaw jigs, the choice of wood, gluing, sanding and finishing.
