Desert Island

Reclining Woman

Extract from back cover of book:

A new and exciting book for all fretsaw and scrollsaw enthusiasts which really brings this subject to life. David Jones discusses the tools and materials required to make splendid fretcut painted relief sculptures. He commences with a simple design to outline the method of work and shows step-by-step stages through to the completed project. A chapter on design and composition includes working drawings, working out a colour rough, using drawings and photographs, and scaling up and transferring the design to the wood. Shaping, introducing mixed media, painting, framing, etc, are all covered.

The second project, a still life of fruit and wine on a tray, relatively simple to make but very effective, is again fully treated with scaled drawings, cutting details and painting techniques.

There follow more detailed projects which are progressively structured to gently build on the techniques mastered from earlier work and include a reclining woman - a really stunning piece, and an extremely interesting landscape which would make a superb wall sculpture.

David Jones ends with a gallery of his work in full colour which illustrates the scope and potential of this exciting art form.
