As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 160

Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts is the world's leading magazine for those who pursue this fascinating aspect of woodworking.

The Big Book of Intarsia Woodworking brings together 37 projects from past issues of the magazine and presents them, together with an introductory discussion about techniques, in a single volume.

The introduction covers topics such as designing, wood selection and the making of frames.

The projects are wide ranging both in design and complexity with some that should be well within the abilities of the relative newcomer and others more appropriate for experienced exponents of the craft.

Among the Flowers and Scenes projects, there is a Magnolia decorated 'door topper', a rose frame, a seaside scene and a classic cup and loaf design.

There's a variety of birds - a duck, a turkey, a macaw and a toucan as well as a chickadee, a flamingo and a birds and berries wreath.

Finally there are animals - humourous bunnies, a loveable puppy, an Arabian horse, a striking raccoon, a sly fox and even a majestic elephant.

A number of intarsia designers are represented in the collection of projects, among them such well known exponents as Judy Gale Roberts and Kathy Wise.

The book offers ideas and encouragement and the opportunity to spend many hours either re-creating the intarsia projects exactly as shown, or altering them to achieve a more personal result.
