As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 149 The subtitle for this DVD is 'A complete guide to pyrography'. A more accurate description would be 'a complete beginner’s guide to wire nib pyrography'. If you’ve done some pyrography, you will have already covered much of the material presented by Lisa Raby in this DVD. Also, if your preference is for solid point pyrography, then the material is not so applicable. Nonetheless if you have not done any pyrography, this DVD will get you started and take you from a bare board to a finished design. All pyrography units use either wire nib or solid tip pens. There are pros and cons for both methods and pyrographers tend to fall into one of the two camps. If you do prefer a wire nib, then it is important to be able to bend up your own nibs to whatever shape you need. This is one of the processes demonstrated by Lisa and will assist beginners to understand the steps involved. She talks with a fairly strong Yorkshire accent but has a jovial manner and is clear in her instruction. The DVD covers the burning of a simple Celtic pattern, the application of feathers, fur and fish scale textures and three projects - a bowl with leaf patterns and textured edge, a coloured pendant and a flame effect on a turned vase. At the end there is brief chapter on burning onto leather and two children, Genesis and Luke, who have a go at pyrography. This is a good video for the beginner, particularly if you have a wire nib burning unit. Duration: 85min DVD - English | ||
