Joinery - DVD Published

As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 126 In Router Joinery, professional cabinetmaker Gary Rogowski looks at the use of the router (with fence or pilot bearing) and the router table to make quick and accurate joints required for carcasses, frame & panel construction and chair & table work. The chapters include rebates, grooves, housing joints, dovetails, halving joints, mortise and tenon and loose tenons. While the machining information provided is completely relevant to plunge routers and modern router tables, the viewer may find it disconcerting that Gary frequently works with a fixed-base router (commonly used in the US) and a primitive router table without guards (do not attempt to design, make and use such an arrangement!) Most of the general techniques have been covered in router books and arguably there is little to learn from watching a piece of wood pass over a router table. However, where this DVD shines is the host of professional tips that are provided for making cuts that are more accurate and methods for speeding up production when multiple joints or housings are required. Some workshop jigs are employed, but these are very effective as well as being inexpensive and quick to make. Router Joinery is produced by The Taunton Press to their usual high standard. In addition to being an informative introduction to joint work with the router, it is also a very useful guide for the more experienced user on how to improve the accuracy and speed of their routed joints. About the Author: Gary Rogowski, a contributing editor of Fine Woodworking, is the also the author of The Complete lllustrated Guide to Joinery and Router Joinery.
