Success
with Routing Softcover Published by Guild of Master Craftsman Publications Ltd, East Sussex UK R.R.P.$29.90 ISBN 1-86108-490-0 |
As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 123 Success with Routing contains a lot of useful basic information about routers and their functions. However, if you've already bought your router, you'll find some of the text irrelevant because you're stuck with what you have. The book is therefore best suited to those about to purchase a router. Part One discusses model differences, cutter types, accessories, safety, dust extraction and maintenance. Part Two covers basic routing, template guides, pilot bearing cutters, router tables and commercial jigs and common joints formed with a router. The text is easy to read and well illustrated with plenty of colour photographs. One of the special features of the router is that its capabilities can be readily extended with the use of home-made jigs, most of which can be made with the router itself. Part Three details the construction of nine jigs/stands - large router table, small router table, housing jig, small circle device, end and flush trimming jigs, mortise jig, trammel and box-combing jig. They're all made from MDF, but plywood or solid timber could be substituted in most instances. Success with Routing is ideal as an introduction to the use of a router. However the section on home-made jigs will also appeal to those wishing to improve their skill with the machine. Photos: Colour Contents Introduction Equipment Techniques
