As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 128

Since the first half of The Bandsaw Book covers the different types of bandsaws and their fittings, the advantages and disadvantages of each variation, it is best suited to someone considering a new bandsaw or perhaps modifying one, rather than someone who is 'stuck' with what they have.

Nonetheless the rest of the book has plenty of useful information, covering the tuning of your machine, troubleshooting, safety, basic and advanced sawing techniques, jigs and three projects - a Mitred Box, Connecticut Tea Table and a decoratively shaped box-like Tea Caddy. Among the many sections included in these chapters are topics such as replacing bandsaw tires, resawing, cutting dovetails and mortise and tenons, using thin blades to form complex curves, stack work, mitres and circles.

Colour photographs and clear diagrams illustrate the information provided in the text and various tips appear in boxed sections throughout the pages.

The Bandsaw Book is a comprehensive guide to the selection, setting up and use of the bandsaw and will appeal to anyone interested in these versatile machines.

About the author: Lonnie Bird is a professional woodworker who uses the bandsaw to make custom furniture. He is the author of The Shaper Book and a frequent contributor to several woodworking magazines. Bird is a professor of woodworking at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio.
