As reviewed in The Australian Woodworker Issue 133

The best way to approach this book is probably to see it as a workshop manual containing descriptions of a series of techniques that can extend the usefulness of your bandsaw.

By the time you are finished reading the book, it's likely you will have learned a lot more about your bandsaw - and you should also have made 15 jigs and fixtures to assist with future projects.

The book begins with an overview of straight cutting and cutting curves (which includes marking out and cutting large radius arcs, ellipses, circles and multiple curves.) These chapters provide instructions for making a vee block for the safer cutting of dowels or similar material, a shop made fence, a shop made auxiliary table with an in-built mitre gauge and a circle cutting jig.

The next chapter deals with Resawing and offers not only useful advice about resawing boards, cutting veneers and slicing logs, but also gives construction details for a custom made single point resawing fence and a bandsaw extension table.

A chapter on Joinery covers the making of lap joints, tenons for mortise and tenon joints (a router mortising jig completes the discussion on this topic), dovetail joints, round tenons and wooden hinges.

An exploration of 3-D cutting shows how to make a bowl on a bandsaw and how to cut cabriole legs.

As you might expect, the Maintenance and Tune-Up chapter contains general information about setting up a bandsaw, as well as selecting and tensioning sawblades.

The final three chapters contain projects; first, a bandsawn box, second, a wall mounted DVD cabinet and third, a console table with a bandsawn apron and shaped legs. The projects are well illustrated with photos and drawings.
