Extract from cover flap of book: Come visit the place where Craftsmanship begins.. A workshop is much more than a physical space full of tools. The existence of a shop represents a creative impulse to make things. It is the place where a woodworker imagines, designs, tries, fails and succeeds in making something beautiful out of wood. Some shops are used to earn a living, others to pass on the craft. In all shops new designs are forged, limits are tested and art is created. In this guided tour of the workshops over 35 woodworkers, we discover that a workshop can be large or small, indoors or out, tucked away on a mountain top or under the desert sun, jam-packed or airy. The over 290 photos in this book freeze the shops in a moment in time, but a shop is always a work in progress; it may be rearranged dozens of times in service of its owner. Beyond the pleasure of vicariously visiting these workshops is the opportunity to meet furniture makers, boatbuilders, turners, carvers and luthiers who share a common love: creating in wood. This finely crafted book will inspire anyone who aspires to woodworking as well as those who already work wood.
