Extract from foreword of book: This book on making Working Wagon Wheels is designed to give the wood worker all of the information necessary to make a strong wheel that looks like the early wooden wheels. The approach was to design a wheel that looks like an old wheel but did not require mortise joints and holes or the need to steam and bend the wood. In some ways this design is stronger in places than the original design and it is much easier to cut out and assemble. There are many options possible in this book that allow the wood worker to instill his or her own design ideas to make your wheel unique. The design as shown will result in a wheel that looks almost exactly like a wheel 100 years old. It is impossible to show all of the variations that wheel makers used years ago but the mostpopular style and design is the one shown in this book. How strong and what types of applications this wheel can be used on will depend on the wood worker skill and type of wood used to make the wheel. A stress test on the wheel shown in this book would not help determine the strength of every wood workers wheel when the size of the wheel, type of wood used and wood working ability all play a major part in each wheel. It is therefore your responsibility to determine the strength of your wheels for a safe application. Before you start on your wheel read through this book and get an idea of what your going to be doing. It will help you to have an idea of what will you will be doing after you finish with one part and proceed to the next. Photos: Black & White Units of Measurement: Imperial | ||
