Lobster Boat Softcover Published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd, PA, USA R.R.P.$20.90 ISBN 0-88740-642-4 |
Extract from back cover of book: The downeast coast of Maine is a special place. It is studded with picture postcard harbors and towns reminiscent of Norman Rockwell paintings. Swinging on their moorings in the quiet harbors are the working boats of Maine's indigenous fishery, the lobster boats. The project in this new book by Steve Rogers is one that was originally built in Jonesport, Beals Island area, north and east of Acadia National Park. It is said that this is the first place where lobstermen strapped gasoline engines over their keels to escape the vagaries of the wind. Taking the lines of the boats built before 1940 by Alvin Beal, Steve Rogers takes the modeler step-by-step through the process of building an authentic scale model lobster boat. With over 250 color photographs he begins with the sculpting of the builder's model, upon which are laid the ribs and hull of the boat. The process continues through the building of accessories and the painting of the boat. This is the third and most ambitious of Steve's books. The others have received critical and popular acclaim. This is sure to join them. Photos: Colour Units of Measurement: Imperial Contents Introduction List of Materials Building the Master Mold Gallery | ||
