Extract from back cover of book: The work of today's preeminent furniture artists as well as up-and-coming innovators can be found in 500 Tables, a spectacularly diverse juried collection. Andrew Glasgow, Executive Director of the American Craft Council and former Executive Director of The Furniture Society has selected pieces that reflect classic, traditional, and masterful woodwork along with tables that utilize alternative materials and aesthetic sensibilities. Greg Gehner has made an ingenious end table out of glass, steel, and re-forged pliers, and Boris Bally recycled aluminum traffic signs in his creation. Gord Peteran comments on the table form with his petite side table. It appears to be crafted from scores of small wooden odds and ends and brings to mind a child's building-block construction. Joe Lastomirsky's end tables are almost opposites of each other: One has a metal frame supporting a wavy concrete square upon the top, and the other consists of a flat metal square surface bolstered by a wavy concrete frame. In his introduction, senior editor Ray Hemachandra writes that, "This book is a testament to the fact that studio furniture making is a craft that is thriving throughout the world with a wide variety of dedicated makers and new fans, owners, and audiences."
