Alan Peters has operated his furniture studio since 1962. Prior to this, he apprenticed for five years with Edward Barnsley. During those years, the Barnsley Furniture shop operated without electricity. Hence, Alan's hand tool skills are one of the many features that set him apart. Alan's awards are numerous, as are the articles that have been written by him, and about him. He is revered as one of the most influential craftsmen of his day. His love of wood and the process of building furniture is evident in every piece he has made.
Alan's work has been exhibited around the world. He has been a much sought-after instructor at craft schools everywhere. In 1984, he wrote "Cabinetmaking: The Professional Approach", considered to be required reading for anyone interested in working wood. In 1987, he was commissioned to revise the woodworking standard "The Encyclopedia of Furniure Making" by Ernest Joyce. Alan and his wife Laura live in Somerset, England where he continues to enjoy his craft.
