Extract from back cover of book:

The Impractical Cabinetmaker completes James Krenov's trilogy on living and working with that endearingly challenging material called wood. Going beyond the ground covered in his two previous books, A Cabinetmaker's Notebook (1975) and The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking (1976), Krenov invites the reader into his workshop where he shares his techniques and his uncompromising approach to craftsmanship, along with thoughts about his work and its place in the world. Photo sequences show how he composes a cabinet directly in the wood, without dimensioned drawings.

Both amateur and professional woodworkers will benefit from a close study of Krenov's philosophy and advice.

Learn about:
- the delicate business of fitting doors and placing hinges
- using solid wood
- accuracy as it relates to a craftsman's own logic
- repairing mistakes - when to do it and when to let go
- making and using "real" veneer

About the Author: James Krenov was born in Siberia, studied furniture making and design with Carl Malmsten in Stockholm, Sweden, and later opened his own workshop there. In 1980 Krenov returned to the United States to open and lead the fine woodworking program at the College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg, California. He has been an immense influence on contemporary cabinetmaking in the United States.
