Extract from back cover of book: Before specializing in wood carving, Ivan Whillock had won recognition with his paintings, drawings, and sculpture. He received a degree in art in 1959. He later studied traditional wood carving with Mexican Master Carver Eduardo Gutierrez and classical sculpture with Spanish born artist Angel Lillo. Ivan's works are found throughout the United States and Europe. Although he occasionally works in other sculptural techniques, clay, cast stone, plaster and bronze, he is best known for his wood carvings, which now number in the thousands. Recognized as a master carver, Ivan enjoys passing the "tricks of the trade" on to others. For several weeks each summer he holds workshops to give both the hobby carvers and professionals who study with him an opportunity to learn carving in an actual studio setting. While most carvers study with him simply to develop an interesting hobby, many of his students have received national recognition. Several who have studied with him have developed notable careers in wood carving themselves. Ivan has authored many articles and several books on wood carving. He and his studio have been featured in national magazines, newspapers, books, and television.
